THE PROJECT

Make a moment findable.

A Time Anchor is a proposed physical reference point: a place and a record designed to remain recognizable across extraordinary spans of time.

What would we wish we had left behind?

No one knows whether information could ever travel backward through time—or whether time travel is possible at all.

The Time Anchor asks a different question: if that ever changes, what would we wish we had already left behind?

THE ANCHOR / CONCEPT DESIGN

Give a moment an address.

Identity records. Human-readable instructions. Time and location references. Redundant archival media. A physical place and a plan for its care.

Preservation is the work.

How do materials degrade? Which environments protect information? How can language, context and identity remain understandable to readers with very different assumptions?

Extreme preservation brings these questions into focus. Durable media, distributed archives and long-term stewardship can produce useful knowledge regardless of whether temporal communication ever becomes possible.

What we know. What we can test.

Anchor 001

The proposed first physical Anchor is in planning, with East Texas as its proposed region and 2030 as its target.

Proposed region. Final location has not been selected.
